Picked this up at a show today. Marked at $20.00, I traded a cracked hutch from New Orleans for it. Both the dealer and I were skeptical on real age and use. It’s 5 1/2”H, is pretty thin glass, and will fit in my hand. It is as crude as it gets. The mouth looks like the slot or opening was purpose made and fire polished.as there is no damage to the mouth or the rest of the bottle. Open pontil and apparent wear on the bottom. Obviously free blown. No patina or dirt. Just some light white residue in the bottom.

I’m guessing a modern whimsy or a fake of a really old bottle. But…I’m willing to be convinced I found something really old. Any guesses?

There used to be a guy who had a whole website devoted to Persian glass. Not sure if his site is the saddleflasks.com above because the site looked different and I'm pretty sure Persian glass was in the title. I sold him the two saddle flasks I had years ago. But I have no doubt your piece is Persian glass. There are generally two schools of thought on the stuff, a few love it and quite a few really dislike it. It was often for many years thought to be repro tourist junk, but at least there is now documentation on-line showing at least some of it is genuine stuff.

You did good in your trade. If you were to sell it to a Persian glass collector you'd break even or even come out ahead I think.

That is a vary old bottle just how old I can't tell you by the photo's but I feel it's early 19th. century (1900) by the pontil mark, and yes it has a lot of bottom of the bottle wear on it.Nice blown bottle for sure!
