Can you help?

I don’t know if this is a New England chestnut flask, but it appears similar in shape. The bottle was excavated years ago in Manhattan, NY, don’t know if Dutch or British? I was told it was pre Revolutionary War, and I haven’t seen the added spiral around neck before. Bottle is 9 1/2" high and approx. 6 1/2" wide at widest point. Can you provide any insight? All help is greatly appreciated.

woody you are right. they were all over the flee markets back in the 1970s . They are old but not as old as you wood think. They still are made almost the same way today.

Hi Chris, did you excavate it yourself? That looks like one of the reproduction Persian saddle flasks from the 1960's or around then, I don't remember off hand.Do a search for Persian saddle flask and you'll like find many of them. I see at least one at every bottle show I go to and they run about $30.

Hello Chris, I have to agree with the other follow ups. I have a couple of them that were in my pride range, but this one even looks more amerish in workmanship. RED M.

Base wear looks legit...Persian saddle flask probably 100 or so years old.

It looks like a nice older persian saddle flask. Could be 1700's to 1800's. I own one of the repros and this doesn't look like it.

This guy is the one to talk to about Persian glass. http://www.saddleflasks.com/ I sold him one that looked a lot like that one. He puts those as fairly old, not reproductions. If you could confirm the circumstances under which it was dug, that will be of great interest to the guy who runs the website, as well as all of us on here. These bottles have been much debated over the years, with some believing they are genuine old Persian glass and some believing they are all pretty much modern repros. Jim G

This saddle flask I believe to be a repro. It has absolutely no signs of wear and is kind of a lighter color. Also, the glass is nothing but a sea of foam, so many bubbles. It's pretty, but I think it's newer. I bought it on ebay many years ago when it first started. It was represented as "genuine" but I've always had my doubts.
