For only the second time in the last couple of years, my digging buddy Pat Oliver and I decided to give privy digging a shot today. Man, it was brutally hot with the temp over 90 and the usual high summer humidity. We put down two holes, and hit just enough pottery and glass shards to keep us going. The age was right, but we could never get on a really good layer. We were hoping that we were in a privy "cleanout" that might lead to a wall, but I guess that they were just trash pits. I will attach a photo of the shards, which included a couple of pontiled meds, Edgefield pottery and ginger beer. We did find one pot lid.
