Hi There,Does anyone know about this bottle. I purchased it at an estate sale here in Virginia from a very old family. The bottle is very dark and when held to the light it's olive green. The bottle has an embossing or some sort that looks like a crown. I checked and there are no seams on the sides of the bottle. The bottle measures at about 8 1/2 inches tall. The bottle looks very old and in good condition. If anyone can share any information about the age, what kind of bottle, where it's from and how much for a bottle like this. I would appreciate any information. Thanks,James

What you have there looks like an ale from the UK somewhere (1890-1910 or so). If you don't see seams on the sides, check under the crown. There should be one around the circumference and 2 up into the neck. It also looks like an internal thread Riley stopper. It's hard to tell from the pictures.

Thank you guys for the information on the bottle. I checked again for seams on the crown and towards around the neck area and didn't see any. Any idea as to what the bottles are priced at. Thank you. James

Looks more like late 1870's-early 1880's to me. Probably 3-piece mold as Eric said. British. Value about $10.

Well, you didn't reply with reference to the internal thread question. MY reply to the no mold seams - tells me that it was turned in the mold with the blowpipe. If that were done there would or could be short (all most vertical) stress in the neck under the finish. The finish is obviously applied glass tooled. Close inspection of the finish might show horizontal turn lines on the glass. It looks like an interesting bottle - so if you want me to study it - send it to me - and I will advise you or pay you for the postage and the bottle value if there is any.

I think you missed the part about being embossed Red. I still the seams are there just a very tight mold.

Well I just went back to look at the pictures, and I could make-out part of the embossed crown, So this tells me that the bottle could not have been turned in the mold. So this also tells us there must be two vertical mold seams. So now I WILL HAVE TO COME BACK TO THIS THREAD. RED M.
