It does look European.. how big is it? If the "2" is for liters, it should hold a bit more than half a gallon..

"It is 11.5 in tall, 7 in wide and 4.5 inches thick" ..sorry, wasn't paying attention.. [;)]

Helllo daxloves; It is a four part mold where the base had two halves and chances are the shoulder was formed in tow sections that were back hinged and closed to create the shoulders and assure the capacity better than a free formed shoulder. If it was for an alcoholic beverage the capacity was important to the countries taxing purposes. The finish is obviously an applied band that was tooled to its shape. Nice demijohn anyway. Wish I was an expert... But I believe the 2 is liter measurement. That bubble is great! I love glass that has survived 150 years! Wish I could tell you more.
