Yup, thats a kick-up base. Your bottle is most likely a wine or ale from the turn of the century.

Thanks ... if that's the case, then perhaps it DID come from my grandfather's place, as he used to go off into his gun shed and drink something out of a paper bag, to hide from my grandmother. He also had a winery but it closed in the early 50s. []
