Lets start by saying I'm new to the bottle collecting...and kinda new to this site...I'm more of a lightning rod and anything related collector, but I pick up all kinds of glass because it intrigues me...I picked up this bottle in an estate sale box lot of bottles...I've never come across one that says " Pure and without Drugs and Poison "...I'll try and post the pictures...What year did they start putting this on the bottles or what year did they stop...??...Thanks in advance for any help..!!

From Surf in a previous post...

This predates the Pure Food Police. In Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, Massachusetts, and New YorkWashington, this was a statutory regulation making the adulteration of liquor a misdemeanor. This was, I believe an outgrowth of the Temperance Movement.

"...The law relating to liquors seems to be meant only to prohibit the sale of spirituous or fermented or malt liquors containing drugs or poisons or substances or ingredients deleterious or unhealthful; and provides that each barrel, cask, keg, bottle or other vessel containing the same shall be branded or labeled with the words 'Pure and without drugs or poison,' together with the name of the person or firm preparing the package. This applies to every package of whatever size -- it matters not whether they are put up for immediate delivery or for stock purpose. This includes all bottled ale, beer, rum, wine or other malt or spirituous liquors, also the bottles used for dispensing over the bar..."
