New is this P. Pfannebecker of Paterson, N.J.stoneware bottle. It is stamped and has B painted on both sides of the neck. I hope you like the pictures. I added a tragic story from the newspaper.

Wow. I guess that law must have gone nowhere since New York has some much more recent stoneware ginger beers, doesn't it? I wonder if they brought in any legislation on properly cleaning bottles instead, since I doubt that it would have been too easy to visually identify the arsenic anyway. I don't remember hearing about any other cases of reusable bottles being contaminated, although it does ring a vague bell that the fear of contamination may have been why stoneware was ultimately phased out in the 30s or so.

Just can’t be cleaned properly for reuse after being contaminated.
