Paint in mini juice bottle ?

I found this in a creek, where it has resided for some 100 years. This is a juice bottle right? Is that paint? Why ? ALSO: this is a machine made Illinois glass company bottle.

I think these were shoe polish or something like that. Although they look a little like the little grape juice bottles, the labeled ones I have seen have all had other stuff in them.

I have found disgusting stuff in bottles, most of the time it's something they wanted to get rid of that's probably toxic. (rubber gloves) my guess is that is not what originally what came in the bottle.

I was contemplating it being shoe polish based on the black stuff, but I thought surely that can’t be since it looks like a juice bottle so much. We all typically think of the generic cork top aqua bottles and arched bottles as shoe polish, definitely not that.
