Was digging in the 1924-capped landfill today and found a Pat. Nov. 30th 1858 Mason's Jar with a grounded lip.

This is my first jar of this type! So excited! Interestingly I also found a 1910 V nickle next to the jar. I need to bring my metal detector to see if there are any more coins.

Another interesting find was this bottle of pills, they were buried for a minimum of 99 years and yet still seem to be as good as new:

Letting them dry:

Mason all cleaned up:

Anyone know what year this jar might be from? Thanks!

I think maybe....1878 -1883...not 100% though

I have dug one of those too and am just as curious about the age

I'm going to side with your assessment, 1878-1883 seems right. I see you got the bigger version, looks great! And with the intact lid too, can't beat that! :D The one hiccup here is my jar does not have the apostrophe in "Mason's", it simply leaves a space and reads "Mason s", as the Creswick section mentions in your post, interesting.

Definitely a throwback jar. I really like those intact pills. You should try one. Then I’ll try one lol
I took one out and tried to crush it, but it was solid like a rock. It doesn't dissolve in water either. Strange.

The Redbook lists the variants/errors on these canning jars. (Just like yours.) --There is more than one or two! Some increase value. Some don't.

I love that visible pill bot too. The depositor probably took a dose and was so sickened he took the other digestive aides you found over the last couple of days. Maybe the chem dept. of a local university would like to analyze a sample to find out their contents/purpose? Spring semester is ending. Hurry or catch 'em in the Fall. Congrats and keep us posted.
