Yeah I've always heard these called Pry Off closures. Never heard of them being called Pride Closures. Seen them on a few sodas but more common on liquor bottles, also seen them on food and medicine bottles. They usually seem to date from the 30s. The idea was that you could reseal the bottle, I suspect that they never caught on because of how complex (and probably expensive) the caps were compared to crown caps.
I have about 4 or 5 sodas with this priof type top. I agree that this top is not common on soda's and that the book has mistaken the wording on the lip of the bottle. I looked at my bottles and at first glance I seen the word pride, but then I focused in and seen the word priof. Here are a couple of photos of my priof type bottles.
Thank you all for the reply and knowledge, I will let the author know . Now I want one for my collection. I have found KOB Dallas in corsicana but not the embossed ones or thief bottles. If ya see a guy walking a creek with a probe on the bad side of town don't worry it's just me looking for bottles.
