The green Archdeacon from 1850 is a very rare bottle, the BLUE one is the only example I am aware of. There is a rectangular slugplate from 1847 that I have a shard of, but no bottles have ever been found, this is the only shard I am aware of.

William Archdeacon and his family owned a lot of land in Paterson from the early 1800's, for years they let people bottle the mineral water from a spring there, which they were paid a royalty for, then in 1847 William decided to bottle and sell it himself. My goal is to find a whole example of the 1847 rectangular slugplate variant before I die...

Good luck! What a fun mission though. Its nice that you know for sure that the rectangular variant exists. No pontils in my town to search for

It seems odd that a big city like Paterson only had the one...were there a lot of stoneware bottles? I know in New Hampshire and Maine everything seems to have been sold in stoneware until the late 1860's or early 1870's.

We had our share of stoneware bottles for sure, here are most of them. I've acquired about another 10-12 or so since this pic was taken.

Love the NJ collection. I have a weakness for most Paterson bottles. Also Clifton, Newark and Passaic bottles. Great pictures and good luck with your bucket list. I am always looking for any tiffany & Allen bottles.
