PHOENIX BOURBON WHISKEY. Applied top, Thomas-120 1880-85. Here’s a very popular western fifth, these are often called the full face Phoenix.
I've never found many whiskey fifths....and that really comes as a surprise. The area I search is a location where men worked very hard & I would assume played hard as well....Still the great whiskey fifths have aluded me....I've managed to eek out a reasonable bottle from time to time....and don't get me wrong I'm greatful for every little thing I've found...I've really been fortunate to score incredible bitters, sodas & foods....still the whiskeys just don't appear. I was thrilled to find this glob-top (applied) fifth two years ago near the old town of Onisbo. The town once supported a post office & a school and before that a Native American village....By the 1880's the town was gone replaced by pear orchards...and a few home sites....I found this bottle in a little dump site with mostly broken items....somehow it survived....
The full face embossing reads: Phoenix Old Bourbon Naber, Alfs & Brune S. F. Sole Agts....There is a large Phoenix arising from flames & ashes as a trade mark. The globby top wants to slide off the bottle and has a nice big drip. The bottle is by no means rare but I like it.....boy that sounds like an understatement....Oh bottle Gods...thank you...thank you....smile upon me....[]
