Hi there! I’m asking for help identifying what I assume to be a perfume bottle. I’ve been digging seriously for about a year now 3-5 times a week. About a year ago when I started I found this bottle and fast forward back to now... I still have no info on it.

Can’t find anything on google and of all the hundreds of bottles I’ve dug, I’ve never came across another one.

I almost always find a repeat of a bottle whether it be whole or in pieces but not this one. The fact that it has no markings doesn’t help either lol.

I’m still pretty green on dating bottles especially unmarked ones so if there’s anyone out there who happens to be an experienced collector or digger that has any insight on this bottle including, but not limited to: time period, company name, is it common?, rare?, pricing, etc... pleaseeeee help! I would so gratefully appreciate it!

Oh and if it helps it’s a slightly amethyst tinted glass pretty faint in color with bubbles and a pretty rough pontil mark on bottom. Cork top that appears to be about 5 or 6 inches in hight. The base of the bottle seems to swirl effortlessly to the bottom in a really nice design (it’s hard to see in photos)

Hope that helps. Thanks for your time!

I've got a pretty similar one of those with a label that wraps around the neck but no pontil mark. Unfortunately I'm not with my collection right now so can't take a picture but I remember it being from Baltimore. It's very possible it was a design used by multiple companies though.

Can you get us a picture of the base/pontil?

Caitlin, I'm not seeing a pontil mark on it. Tooled top dating from 1890 to 1910. I agree that it more than likely is a perfume/cologne bottle.

Perfume/cologne bottle. Most perfume bottles were label only. The indented panels would have held the labels. The cylindrical perfume bottles used by Hoyt are common and embossed Hoyt's German Cologne. However you might run across other cylindrical bottles embossed with lesser known companies' names who also bottled perfume - hailing from New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts and other Down East states.
