Great finds as usual, Jack! What came in the Teutie? I've never seen one of those. That Merchant's rocks and would look good sitting next to the Wilcox for a photo session. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Matt, I suspected as much but always good to have some expert confirmation.....and Jim, after reading your post I threw them all away. Just wondering how they faked those pesky pontil scars! And Jimbo, my first read was likely a utilitarian type bottle on the Teutie. I suspect a polish or blacking product or possibly a small food type bottle, as it is almost qualifying as a jar rather than a bottle. I can find nada on it so far but only looked in my hard copy references and not the net yet. And back from popular demand, a little color range. Funny story, on rare occasion I actually BUY a bottle and when I do, I have the uncanny luck/ability to go out and dig one up in the next month or so. I purchased the larger GW Merchant bottle pictured on the left and it arrived in the mail on Saturday, and 3 days later I dig the one next to it! Not quite the same bottle, but close! It'll do for now! HA! Jack

That Gargling is great. I have on that is super crude and if you were to look at it you would think it to be pontiled but it isn't. You have been having some pretty good digs lately and I think you have a memorable hole coming soon. At least I hope you do.

Boy those are some nice early pieces. I feel your pain on that lip chip, I'm sure digging it out slowly, and having it look whole made it tough. But at least there wasn't a big hole in the back. Plus you got that gorgeous Gargling oil. It's so weird how all of us in this little "sub culture" of ours as collectors of early bottles, can look at that photo of that dusty, gloppy lip of an old bottle, and we just drool like we're gauking at a gorgeous woman :) guess thats where the phrase "bottle porn" came from. I just sometimes wonder what people must think when they see us look at a dusty bottle lip get so hot and bothered.
I've lost my mojo for privy digging. I'm back to wandering in the woods looking for dumps. It is fun and mentally healthy for sure, but I know there are privies in the towns around me, and it's just been a long time since I've knocked on a door for a permission. You really have to be in a certain mindset (at least I do) and really have your privy digging act together to have success. Once you lose that mojo, or the momentum might be a better word, it's hard to get it back. Diving for bottles is similar for me. I hope to dive this week.
And hopefully I'll bang on some doors again soon. That Lockport green has me green with envy :}

thanks for the post
