Archeologists are currently working on a home site in Louisiana. The home was built and continually occupied from between 1758 and 1770 and today! It was originally built as a trading post servicing French settlers and local Indians. Extensive excavations are producing large amounts of cultural material from the late 18th century to modern dates. We have found several intact bottles and many fragments. We are trying to determine the approximate age, use, and origin of one in particular. Pictures are attached. It is a medium amber color and stands between 13 and 16 inches high. I’ll get an exact measurement and post later. The bottle has only been lightly rinsed and has a lot of internal residue and external patina. No mold seam are apparent anywhere on bottle. It stands a little lopsided and there is a slight twist to neck. We see no sagging of glass at base or thickening that might indicate free blown but also find it hard to see any indication of dip mold shadowing or joining lines. Any help would be greatly appreciated and will help us with documentation of this extremely historic site. Please let me know if you have any questions or need additional photographs.

Looks like an applied top hock wine. Usually blown in a turn mold, but with the patina, I can't say for sure. As far as age goes, I lean toward 1880 or so. Very nice and we look forward to seeing what all you find in your excavations, especially the bottles, whole or broken. Thanks for sharing that with us.
