All excavated today in one of the most exhausting hunts of the season, all in a muddy swamp. From left to right: Willow Brook Dairy, Reid's Union Dairy Ice Cream Corp. "It's The Best", Shell Motor Oil, G. Wm. Meyer, August Bay Bottling Co., and the Mini Blob is from the Union Bottling Company "UBC".

It took me a few educated guesses but I found the logo to be from the Union Bottling Company which operated at 240 East 20th Street and 119 East 124th Street, NY and dates from 1873-1890's. Baybottles.com notes that the UBC made many unusual little bottles like this for soda water, ginger ale, and sider.

This is a very amazing and rare find, the original Shell Motor Oil quart bottle, back when big awkwardly tall glass bottles full of oil were common in the early days of motor vehicles, 1920's-1930's.

Very nice. Motor oil bottle is awesome. You digging in the marshes by NYC? I see zebra mussels in the “in place” shots. I have one of those Reid’s Union bottles. Paid 2$ for it thinking it was a Union county NJ bottle, but it’s a Brooklyn dairy I believe.

Man I just love the in situ pics! I used to dig with a guy in Hartford CT and he took a great pic of a Old Sachem bitters in Olive green poking out of the ash on the sidewall of his 8 or 10 foot deep hole. Will never forget the pic . Kind of cocked sideways with about 60% of one whole side showing. It popped out whole and after tumbling sold for big bucks I heard .I wasn't there that day of course but we dug that city dump together often as it was best to pull buckets to gain depth. A guy dug a busted cobalt fish bitters there and another guy pulled a Citron McKeever army drum with the bottom out. I saw a great frag too of the mushroom top and shoulders of a Tippecanoe in pure bubbly olive green. Some incredible broken stuff was sometimes found. I saw the top and shoulders of a Doyle's hop in incredibly bubbly and seedy moss green too. So many criers. Lots of guys dug that dump and maybe somebody pulled some zingers nobody knows about yet. Of course they built over the dump now so it's dead. Probably at least an acre or more left undug up to 12 feet deep too :(
