I found this round bottom bottle yesterday, July 4, bottle hunting in GTMO.

I’m hoping to hear your opinions on this bottle and thoughts on its age.

The lip was barely showing, I bent down to check it out and was amazed at this find. It was in soft sand.

I believe the lip is applied. There are lots of air bubbles, and no seam.

Do you think it is one of those bottles that was surrounded by a basket weave? Maybe an old wine bottle?

Thank you in advance!

Nice find, looks great on the sea shells, and the painted jug is wild. Very classy.

You're correct, it is one of those ones that was covered in wicker. It's called a fiasco and was used for chianti. Unfortunately they're practically impossible to date because of how long they were made using the same basic technique.
Thank you! I appreciate the information!

Found the same one in a landfill where all artifacts were from about 1910-1913.

Those roundish bottles always sell well. (Some have a small flat spot and will stand on a level surface.) Usually its the large bottles that survive with some of their wicker intact. Resist the temptation to remove it.
