Found this while diving in a NH river. The collar is applied. Theres quite a few seed bubbles but not as many as other pieces I have found. Were there any high quality glasshouses that made these? Also wondering if that is a sand pontil scar.

It looks like an older method for those but not a pontil, just a cold bottom post. Give it a feel with your finger. If it feels a little sand papery then maybe.I'm not holding it so I couldn't say for sure, even if I knew what I was talking about.[:)]

Doesn't feel like sand paper. Looks and feels pitted/whittled/etc. There seems to be a lot of different examples/colors/ styles of the aromatic schnapps.

Hello sand-pontil; I guess I missed this post before now. I am still working to try and put together some information on pontils. I know that it looks like a punty rod was used to empontill the bottle to me. I assume there is some dome shape to it. When these were done this way, they put the face of the punty in the molten metal (glass) in the furnace and lifted it out and put it in a box containing sand. When they were using this method they had different options of the to dip in, to suit them selves depending on their experience and the product. From what I have read they had sections in this box that contained; graphite, iron dust from the mold shop, sand, and glass dust with small glass chips in with it - to put the hot glass coated punty rod in the release material that suited them or the job requirement. The diameter was dependent on the weight of the piece and the design and the customers desires of the design. There just wasn't much written about this subject - unfortunately. RED Matthews i
