I really have to wonder what sort of thought process led them to thinking that the 1970s seemed like a reasonable guess for that bottle. The 70s weren't that long ago, so unless the store clerk is around 20 years old you'd think they would either remember what bottles looked like in the 70s or remember what bottles looked like a decade or two after the 70s. Maybe they thought it was a decorative bottle? But it still seems pretty weird to assume that a dark green utilitarian-looking bottle is decorative.Yes, whoever told you that blob top bottle is from the 1970s knows NOTHING about antique bottles. But, to be fair, most antique dealers don't have time and energy to do a lot of in-depth research, and they only have a very superficial knowledge on a lot of things they stock.
They might specialize in learning about a few of their favorite types of antiques, and know very little about many other fields of collecting. But when they try to fake it and pretend they know............that's much worse than just saying. "Honestly, I don't know"!!
