I've had this crate for a bit, but was thinking about it recently. I purchased it off the Bay. Some of you know that I collect Pepsi items, specifically Kentucky related Pepsi items. This Louisville crate came up so I jumped on it. First, it's a Generalite Bottle Box from the General Box Company from Louisville. It's a Double-Dot, and it's painted on the outside. What is seems to be unique about this crate is the binding on the outer edges. I haven't seen another crate with this kind of binding. I was just curious if anyone has seen another crate like this, not just Pepsi, but any brand.

No date that I can see. If there was a date, it's long gone. There are 6 patent numbers. The last is 2.407.000 I can't read all of them.

Josh: You must have accidently typed in the wrong patent number. It's not 2,407,000, it's ... 2,407,090 (I can see the 9 in your picture) The patent is for the Metal Binding Straps Filed: ........January 30, 1943Approved: September 3, 1946 Which tells us the crate cannot date any earlier than 1946. Here's the link to the patent image below: https://www.google.com/patents/US2407090?dq=2,407,090+box&hl=en&sa=X&ei=Qgq0U9HXFIahqAb684LoBA&ved=0CBwQ6AEwAA This next link has a patent number timeline: 1946 Patent Numbers Between 2,391,856 - 2,413,674

Bob, On your attached patent photo, it says "Original Filed 10-15-1938". I'm guessing they were using these bands on crates since 1938 or even earlier, before the official government 1946 patent date? Josh, Mine says about the same as yours "Generalite Bottle Box, by the General Box Company, Cincinnati, Ohio". And in agreement with what member Sketch said above regarding the month/year date coding on crates, mine says 9-42, for 1942.
