I have never found any glass bottles with this glass house mark before here in Wisconsin. It is a nice little flask, it came from the river diving today. Any info???? S.G.W. LOU KY. Teal green aqua.
Thanks!
Tom
S.G.W.LOU.KY...........Southern Glass Works, Louisville, KY (1877-c.1885). Southern Glass Works (also called Southern Glass Company, especially in the first two years of operation) started making glass in the fall of 1877. It was also known as "Stanger & Company", with some of the same employees of the Louisville Glass Works that had shut down 4 years earlier. Within 2 years the firm was reorganized and the firm name then became "Sherley & McCulloch". The most prosperous years of this operation may've been from about 1880 to 1883. In about 1885 the factory became idle, only to re-open again in 1886 as the "Louisville Glass Works Company", a name confusingly similar to other factories in the area. It was not listed in the 1887 or later directories, so this reopening probably lasted only a few months. The 1892 Sanborn fire insurance map shows that the factory was by then in "ruins". The property was razed sometime between 1892 and 1905 as it was no longer standing according to Sanborn maps of 1905. Other marks include "S.G.W.; "SOU.G.WS" and "S.G.CO."

I would say your bottle is on the early end of thier production since it is so crude.
Hello Wayne,
The spot where this one came out has thrown a ton of "good" bottles! It had a large railroad station just up river and had steady stops dating back to the 1860's, which is where it all began for bottles here in Wisconsin. Just to name a few finds just from last fall which were all found by divers are a civil war sword, 2 revolvers, numerous jugs and crocks, and for bottles, clay beers! Clay or pottery beers ar highly sought after by collectors as are pre hutches. Here is a pic or two of some of the better bottles I found.
Tom
Not every bottle pictured came out of that spot but many did. Most are all lake or river found bottles and a couple were dug by construction crews.

Great photo's... thanks for sharing! Love that "mug Based" hutch... sweet looking bottle. What is it, where did you find it... how rare is it? and what is it worth??...
