Strange rivet marks on a neck?

Dug this oddity today from a tiny yard dating back to the 1850's and possibly to the 40's. Has what appears a refired pontil, a sheared lip refired smooth, with 8 very strange dots located on the neck. The neck appears to be part of the mold right to where the lip was sheared. The "dots" as I am calling them appear near the shoulder, 2 each on either side of the seam line which is crooked severely to the right on each side. There are a corresponding 4 dots about 1/2 inch from the lip also on either side of both seam lines. The dots around the neck are protruding outward as a period on an embossed bottle would be while the 4 around the shoulder are pushed in and can be felt from the inside of the neck the same as the others from the outside. Never seen this before and almost suspect a European import, but no real clues to that idea. First thought it was an olive oil or some food product but really can't say I have seen this exact type before. Any ideas or guesses? Anyone seen such markings on a neck before? Definitely not any air venting that I have ever noticed and was dug in a late 1850's-early 60's context, with only a few shards here & there. Only dug for about an hour so hopefully I will find something more to confirm age. Has a nice hammered whittle appearance and with that sheared lip looks about right for the context.

I haven't that before either. Rather strange looking. I think you got the time period right and it probably is an oil/vinegar bottle. How tall/wide is it?

I'd bet that those dots are from where the 2 plates forming the neck section of the mold were riveted or bolted to the hinged superstructure of the bottle mold. Neat find!

I don't think they have anything to do with venting in those locations. "So I guess it wiil be a bottle mystery for a while... I will show it to an associate. RED Matthews

I've got an unlisted scroll flask GIX-11 (applied champagne band, iron pontil) that exhibits rivets around the sheared neck. Three on each side, and very similar to a blot out mark like you would see on some insulators.
