I went over a friend's house today to look at a dump she found that was only 15 feet from her house. It was topped with screw cap bottles, but went into 1910-20s era near the bottom. I was going to be satisfied finding some fruit jars and BIM bottles, when I hit something saltglazed. I started to uncover a jug, and figured it has to be broken, as they always are. But, I uncovered the top, intact handle, and most of the body. I took a breath and wiggled it out if its resting place. It was whole! I nearly keeled over when I saw a beautiful cobalt slip floral design on the front. It was stamped E. Norton & Co. Bennington, VT on the shoulder. Since it was her family dump I insisted that she keep it, it might have belonged to her great great grandfather! Could it be?
Yes!!!
