I have a bottle, I think it's tequila, that was in my grandparents' house for years. It's stamped on the bottom with "Federal Law Forbids Sale...", so I'm pretty sure it's liquor. It has what I take to be agave leaf molded into the glass. It's recessed, not raised, and the same leaf is also on either side of a gold band on the neck. The stopper is a "T" style, but trimmed off on one top side by design. Plastic stopper with cork plug to seal. Aside from the "Federal Law..." on the bottom, it has D-334, a 3 by itself, and 40-59 which I'm guessing is the 40th week of 1959. The bottle with stopper is 11" tall, 6" wide. Here's some pics, hope it helps. Even if we can't identify it, at least you folks can have a look. I always kiddingly called it their marijuana bottle, due to the shape of the leaf. Thanks!

The D-334 is the number assigned to the distillery in 1934 the beginning of prohibition. I have been unable to come up with a list of numbers with the names of these distilleries. The bottle definitely predates 1964, the end of the requirement not to reuse liquor bottles. I am sure those other numbers are the date of manufacture but the " 40-59 which I'm guessing is the 40th week of 1959." is a new thought to me. I am not sure that is correct but not sure it's wrong either. Interesting idea! Jim BTW, the bottle has little to no collector value in my opinion, if that matters.

No, I already figured it wasn't a collector's item, I was just curious as to what it is. Thanks for the reply.

You know, after thinking about what you said, and what's on the bottom of the bottle, I'd have to say this isn't a tequila bottle. The "Federal Law..." is a US deal, the distillery number D-334 applies to US distilleries. And tequila isn't made in the US. D-334 appears to be connected to the Jim Beam distillery. So whatever it is, it's evidently not tequila.

The Beam Bottles book calls it the "Royal Crystal" issued 1959 so Jim's thinking sounds about spot on.

And thanks to Jeff for pointing me to that book too. I'll have to find a list of those distillery number assignments next..
