This is my wife's grand father, Wayne Morgan. Enlisted June,24 1940. After training on the very first 240mm Howitzer regiment, he shipped out from Newport Virginia on December 23, 1943. They landed in North Africa, stayed 2 weeks then on to the invasion of Italy. His regiment supported the push, mountain to mountain of entrenched German troops all the way to Rome and into northern Italy. From there it was on to France for that invasion. He crossed the Rhine River in Germany in September of 1945. He also served as radio operator and marksman rifleman. He was awarded the Campaign Medal with four bronze stars and the American defense medal. He was a great patriot and I admired him greatly. He passed five years ago this July 4th. I salute him and all his Brothers in Arms past, present and future.[attachment=image.jpg]

I've no doubt he a great man and contributed in a major way to the effort but this holiday is for those who didn't return alive, his comrades and friends. That's something that gets confused often.Speak as I'm sure he would have spoken, commemorate the friends he lost and then the bravery of those that came home.I sound like an a-hole.I'm sure but that is what today is about.

You are correct Eric. Mitch, he means no harm so don't take that wrong. Veterans Day is the day to remember those who returned. .. Today I remembered my 2nd cousin, Harmon Haley, Jr., who left the states in 1964 as a navy pilot. He was shot down somewhere over Vietnam and was never heard from or seen again. He was 24. God bless him.

No harm no foul ! Last years post on Memorial Day didn't get a lot of responses. Like you Eric ,I thought it would get more. Maybe it's been too long since "The Big One". Lots of younger people on here that have no idea of the sacrifice made by our vets. Truly sad. We loose more and more of these great people every year. They won't be around for much longer. I thought I would honor one of them. I try to thank them when I meet them. Mitch
