Tin-Over-Cardboard milk bottle sign

Picked up this cool looking sign. Obviously not mint, but still a great sign (I think).

I even had the bottles to match it. It's from Cleveland, Ohio.

Are there many tin over cardboard milk signs out there? Seems like the breweries were big into using them, but hadn't ever seen a milk one before.

I'm guessing it's 1930's?

Nice find, I really like it! I bet the faded area could be restored without too much difficulty if you desired.

Personally, it has a 1910s to early '20s look to me but you would know better. Do ya have an idea how old those milks are/what year they were made, or when the dairy operated?

He was operating as South End Dairy at 5814 Fleet St. in 1933 from what I see online...

It took me a minute, but I found the link on line to the South End Dairy in 1933 on Fleet St. I'm pretty sure I have South End bottles boxed up in the attic, too. Maybe the Kaszubski bottles and sign I have are earlier, while the dairy was still in his Kaszubski name. I found the bottles in an abandoned house, not too far from Fleet. The Fleet area is well know for its Slovenian and Polish history.

Checked out the sign on ebay you mentioned. Very nice. I wonder how the seller determined the 1910 date on it.

I couldn't find out anything on when the dairy operated. All I could find was the info epackage found above. Maybe you or someone else can help on dating the bottles. I'm not familiar with dating milks. The smaller pint bottle has a "24" below the slug plate, at the base. On the opposite side at the base is a "3 4" (a gap between the 3 and 4). On the base is a small B.

On the larger bottle below the slug plate and at the base is O.C.& S. CO. And on the opposite side at the base is "A 8". Nothing on the bottom.

What a coincidence! I went to a huge auction about a half hour away from me, and came away with this great sign.

A museum called The Elm Dairy Museum (in Medina, Ohio) decided to close up for good and auction everthing off. It took four days to conduct the auction, with multiple rings going on at once. Quite an impressive amount of dairy related items, and 1000's of them too. And an endless amount of milk bottles.

The Museum stated the sign is from the 1920's. Now I'll have to find the "buttermilk" version of the bottle to match it.

Is that a metal sign Rick , I am assuming it is . Kind of jumps out and grabs you . Guess I should have read more , of course it is a metal sign lol . Getting late .............
