Two nice finds.

Found a few bottles Sunday including two which are among the oldest and nicest yet. Got an old boar’s head mark Gordon’s gin bottle with a number 7 below the crazy looking boars head. Has London and England embossed on sides. This must be early 1900s I’m guessing. Couple dings and a hairline crack but the glass is clean and a nice shade. Thoughts on age or that embossed mark??

Second one is a beautiful small Albion Maryland whiskey bottle in a beautiful light amethyst. Perfect condition, lip and neck seem applied, so guessing hand blown in a mold late 1800s early 1900s? This one is my favorite. I saw references online to this light purple shade, but did it start life as clear and age to this color? No idea. Base has no marks I can discern. Thoughts?

Your bottle would have started out clear. The bottle manufacturer used MANGANESE in the process of making the glass to clarify the glass batch. The bottle exposed to the sun (or radiation) reacts with the manganese and will start to turn a purplish tint. Collectors refer to this as SCA (Sun Colored Amythist). Enterprising (unscrupulous) sellers will radiate these and they will turn a very deep purple. They do this trying to take advantage of the unwary. They are pretty, but they are way overdone. The color created by being exposed to sunlight is quite beautiful. The bottles can be turned back to clear by placing them in a kiln and baking them at an extremely high temperature. I know of one collector that has done this just as an experiment to very this process.

Thanks for that update, very useful. I had found a couple small medicine bottles (WT&Co) that had a slight pink tint, and one small milk the same way, but this one is at least 3 shades darker than anything else I had seen. Do you think I am correct in dating it to right around 1900?? Still very new at this, < 1 month. Luckily my collection spot has been 90% surface finds, or a little unearthing. No 4 foot pits dug yet although I suspect I will need to try that to see if any 1800's bottles are below all the 1910-1940's/50's stuff I am finding. Thought I would find more cool beer bottles or art deco sodas, found only a couple and an ACL "Star beverage" bottle, and about 500 Cliquot clubs. I will post a few more of the interesting small bottles I found later.

Without finding some advertising or business directory I think you've made a good estimate of age.
