Hi all,
Here is another bottle given to me....it is 9 1/2 inches tall and green, eventhough it looks brown in the picture. It has lots of whittling and the seam goes just above the shoulder area.
My question is what may have it contained and how old might it be.

There is a well known common bottle that looks exactly like yours, it's always whittled and olivy green, and is base embossed "Hunyadi Janos Bitterquelle" which was a Hungarian mineral water. Yours might be another example of that bottle, just unembossed, or another manufacturer of mineral waters, who copied the design of their very successful competitor. Date range is late 1800's - 1910 or so. It's a great window bottle, and has a dollar value of $10-15.00.

marjorie040: I have an idea that this central embossed K on the bottom of a lot of bottles were indicative to the Kensington glass house. It is sure a nice bottle - thanks for showing it. RED Matthews

Hello,
I think just as today, companies copy what sells. I think this is a knock off of a Hyandi Mineral water bottle. But def American. The whittle is nice huh?

I would strongly disagree.That is a European bottle and doesn't look like any American glass bottle I have seen.I have seen others on here and Ebay that had a K on the base that were definately not Zanesville bottles.It certainly isn't Kensington .David W.'s list covers American marks and not foreign makers.

To Marjorie040; This is a listing of this glass house and doesn't have a lot of information. This is from my Early Glass Makers List.

DR. DYOTT was an agent for the following glass houses
* * OLIVE GLASS WORKS, Glouchester N.J.
Dr. Dyott had $s invested here.
* GLOUCHESTER GLASS WORKS, Clementon, N.J.
* and the KENSINGTON GLASS WORKS.
1831 – 1832 J.S. KENSINGTON GLASS WORKS, Philadelphia, PA.
[ Henry B. Binners, S. Cecatur Smith & Quinton Campbell bought The Dyottville Glass Factory as operated by Henry Seybert
The firm was dissolved in 1852.]

Sorry I don't know how to get the lines transferred correctly.
RED Matthews
