Anyone seen a 7up back like this before? It's a 7oz 47/48? I saw another one pictured on Etsy, bought it, but when I received it it was an entirely different bottle. I found this one in a six pack with carton of swimmer girls at a local flea here in Missouri. I have alot of 7oz bottles and this one is the only one I have with a back like this. Sure would appreciate any comments or information on this bottle, Thanks!

I think you have a pretty good handle on what this bottle is. 7up changed the back of their bottles constantly. The rarer ones I think, are the ones that say, You like 7up, 7up likes you. Those were among the earliest. Search for Cecil Muncey in this forum, there’s a download of his 7up bottle history in the old threads that discuss it.

The only ones I've seen that say Lithium instead of Lithia were dated 1949. Were they trying to get around a new law banning lithia in drinks?

I can't find any posts with Cecil Muncey's 7up book, does anyone have a link? I'd really like to see it.

OK, I lied, I have this weird one that appears to be dated 1953 and says Lithium. It is also strange that it doesn't have a makers mark, but it looks like Owens Illinois style codes. Also not stippled on the base.

Yea, I didn't have any luck finding anything either, I was possibly using the wrong search terms. Let me know if you find it my friend!

I don't know the answer to that either, would be interesting to know why!

Went to an antique store that has a bunch of 7up bottles stored outside. Dug through a box covered in spiderwebs and dodged the spider that was running around underneath the bottles. Found another bottle with the unusual back, and this one was made by Glenshaw Glass. I thought the letter on the lip was an O, but that would be 1943. Probably a U. I would have bought it, but when I tried to go inside, I found out they were closed it is very worn, but I can tell that it is from Minnesota.
Also found some info on why lithium was banned in 1949. Comes from a 1980 journal article called "The Checkered History of Lithium in Medicine"
