Unusual milk glass ink

I picked up several inks recently from an estate sell. There were 100s of inks, and there was a kind of feeding frenzy to pick them up when they opened the door.

I'm not sure what to make of this one though. The shape kind of looks like a turtle, or maybe tea kettle ink? Milk glass (can't say that I've seen a milk glass ink before) with a ground lip. No idea on age either.

Any info appreciated.

Nice find! Yeah milk glass definitely isn't a very common colour for inkwells. With the ground lip I assume it had a metal cap and was sold as a reusable inkwell meant to look nice on your desk, rather than being sold with ink in it. Those ones can come in some very unusual colours compared to the disposable ones:

Great find ! I'm have accumulated a pretty good collection between interesting UK Penny inks up to master inks. I purchased a lot on Facebook and this milk glass ink was part of the lot.

The dimple on the dome of the inkwell suggests to me that it was part of some sort of patented ink stand, perhaps swiveling to the side or perhaps being held in some sort of frame to keep it from getting knocked over. Based on form I'd say european rather than US.

That wide mouth reminds me of the "snail" inkwells that are on the cast irons stands.

Me too but the orientation is wrong for those vertically mounted wells that swivel open.

Some really nice inks yall have been posted in response. I've not heard of a snail ink, and it's hard for me to picture on a swivel stand. Something for me to research. Thanks for the feedback!
