LOL yeah I would ask too, I can't wait. A dairy used to be there that I only know of one bottle in existence. So I hope it's gonna be a great day. Plus whatever else we find!

swamp dumps are best dug in late summer or fall when the water table is lower but if I were you I'd dig it whenever you have the chance. The location near a school suggests to me that it is most likely dug but you never know. Many years ago when I was in school, I used that as an access point for a few hundred acres of woods containing the dumps from multiple farms. We didn't worry so much about permission back in those days. If it is a mucky area, there might be stuff buried deep in the muck that escaped earlier diggers. Good luck! If there is nothing there you might try looking for other smaller dumps that escaped the attention of other diggers, including in areas where you would think they never would have had a dump.

Does anyone have any advice as to how to find and get to bottles that may be sitting under a couple to several feet of wetland muck and peat that is walkable/hard on the surface? I have a site that I am sure will be a treasure trove given the 18th century homes adjacent, but I'm not really sure how to tackle it. I'm thinking of digging down as far as I can get and then probing from there. However, when I do feel a bottle at depth, how the hell do you get to it without drowning? I really don't know how consolidated this will be at depth. I know there will be standing water within a foot of the surface... Chris

Re: Might be digging an old dairy soon....

UPDATE: I did dig I will post pictures soon. It was crazy. Needless to say I found all broken milk bottles from a dairy I never knew existed until a few weeks ago and there is only one known bottle in existence. I did find a lot of ketchup and mustard bottles and a dental polish bottle as well as a few Listerines. Also a radiator cap to a 30 something Ford, that was the coolest find. The water was crazy though, the water table needs to go down a bit. I'll post pics soon. :)

[attachment=photo 2(13).JPG] [attachment=photo 2(14).JPG] [attachment=photo 5(3).JPG] You can see an old rail road spike in the first pic of this section, pretty cool.
