Here is a pickle I missed out on when auctioned in 1989 by Glassworks Auctions. The winner had it about 34 years now and finally agreed to sell it to me. It's a William Underwood from Boston. Been a while since I added such a nice one to the shelf. Pretty good size too and mint. Thought I would share as others often share pics of their newest acquisitions. Haven't even had it 6 hours yet! I just relied on the fact that he promised to sell it to me and of course I had a standing offer he couldn't refuse! It was still tough waiting though.Have known the guy close to 50 years. Really good friend. Johnny M.

It’s great when someone makes you a promise and keeps it after that long of time. That is a true friend.

That he is. We used to dig together sometimes. Not much because he was kind of a closet collector and a bit of a recluse in my opinion. Nice friendly guy though and very knowledgeable on good bottles. Always set up at the Keene show. I got another pickle from him about 20 years ago that he promised me. Maybe post pic of that tomorrow. Have to do it from my computer. Johnny M.

Amazing bottle and story!

"Congratulations" seems so feeble a word for something like this!

It's a great word! Yeah, it's a pretty one. Nice rich blue aqua. Glad I shared it with the group. It's been in a box all these years so it's nice to share it with the community. I'm just the appointed curator for now but this survivor from the past really belongs to all of us! Johnny M

That's one spectacular Underwood. Good to see that I'm not the only one who'll chase a bottle for 30+ years. This hobby requires a heap of patience if you want not just an example, but THE example.

The embossing says Underwood Boston; Deviled Ham was a product I remember; mom used to make sandwiches from the stuff when I was a kid. Established in 1822 they've been in business for a long time.
