Hey all,

I work as a wetland scientist in New Jersey, so I can be out in a mixture of different types of environments to find old bottles in. My father who has been a land survey for the past 30 some years has a large collection of old unknown bottles decorating a room with.

So I'm just here trying to learn more about some of the things I'm finding out there.

Welcome! I like working outside too, so finding something is icing on the cake. Post some pics if you'd like and don't be discouraged

Would like to see some pics for sure. Even just a few group shots of racks of bottles would be a good start. We here can probably point out the better bottles so you can focus on them with more informative discussions.

Some of the best preserved old bottles can be found in wetlands. Their slow rate of change, anaerobic environments, and insulating nature preserves many artifacts for hundreds of years. You have a great career if you can walk in wetlands while at work, many of us coastal people have to wait for our days off to enjoy that privilege. Wish you all the luck! Post pics! :)

So these 3 bottles I recently found in a salt marsh in Wildwood nj. 1 is a 10oz 7up bottle, the 2nd is a 10oz coca cola bottle, and the 3rd is a 1 gallon jug. This jug has some vines leaves and what looks like grapes embossed on the shoulder. On the bottom of the jug it has the numbers L0-4-2 or the letter O. It has the number 57, and what appears to be a UG monogram but it's very faint.

I do know there was an old water treatment facility on this island back in the late 50s to the 70s or 80s.

Looks like the first 2 soda bottles date to 1966 & 67. Hopefully you can find some much older stuff in there from 1800's? LEON.

I'm also a wetland scientist in Ohio. Been doing that for 30 years. I've found lots of bottles over the years. This is a job that will get you around to a lot of different areas and also to areas not normally accessible. Around here, most of the dumps were dug decades ago. Most of my finds are random bottles I come across crawling through the brush while delineating those wetland boundaries.
