I looked for a case that a doctor may have carried in the late 1800's or at least before the Food and Drug people got their say, in what you could tell people what your product really contained. I almost made it but the earliest case I could find and afford on a retiree's salary dates back to 1911 and was produced by the Spaulding Co. After researching, I found out that allot of the people that made these cases were dying from a lung disease. (mesothelioma). I chose Dr. Chester Quack for the lettering on the case as it seemed appropriate, according to my weird sense of humor. If you have any interest in quackery. Look at a case that the federal government brought against Dr. H.F. Perry and his Vermifuge Medication.
