Found this old bottle in my grandfathers basement today. No idea what it is or if it is even that old.

Any ideas as to what it is and age would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum! Looks like it dates to the late 19th century or so. Not sure what was in it though, I don't recognize the symbol on the base.

Looks like a dt on bottom then a word just above that. Word looks to be written in cursive.

Looks to me like an unembossed citric magnesia bottle I can hardly tell but it looks to me like it's got some Amethyst in that too if it's got a purple tint to it all you have to do is leave it out in the bright sunlight real hot sun put on something black for the Sun 2 xorbin to the glass the longer you leave it in the sun the more purple it'll turn

Has that pearl look to it.

Also appears to have a "seam" only on that area where it transitions from the body to the neck.

There and around the shoulder, so it was blown in a 3-piece mold. I agree with Canadian that it dates to the late 19th century. The "pearl" look is probably faint iridescent staining from long exposure to moisture in the basement through the years. I'm leaning toward apothecary or toiletry. Don't ask why, just a feeling.

Is the inside of the neck ground, for a glass stopper? Can't tell from the pics but looks like it might be. If so, it's likely a pharmacy bottle... would have held either a finished product or a component for making meds.

I would place it in the 1860's to 1870's. Given the three piece mold. And type of lip.
