And after cleaning...
Embossing reads: "Charles Gulden Importer N.Y."

Diver, the one with embossing is very nice. Yours is from the ocean as well?

Wayne, that Gulden's is just fantastic! I have a Gulden's too, but it's the clear "stacked bulbs" type with the large flared mouth.
I have seen several 4 bulb (tall) versions, but the only 8 bulb one I have ever seen is mine. (Each bulb is about 1" give or take.)

Hey kost...

No, this one is from fresh water. I found it down Conn river. Great diving down there. The bottles from fresh water sometimes have a very dark (almost black) slime/growth on them (we call it "river scum"). This indicates that they have not been buried, but was lying out in the open. We go "surface picking" when we see them just strewn about the bottom. The real clean ones are from when we dig them out from the mud and sand. Some bottles look like they were just thrown in there yesterday.

Right Kevin???

Hi Wayne,
I've never dived in a river, it would be nice to try.
Naturally, I also find that if a bottle sank immediately, got some sand in and spent all time lying quietly then it's much cleaner and has fewer scratches than if it had been thrown around at the bottom for some time.

Regards,
Kost

Hi Kost. I have a couple of those myself. I pulled this picture from an American Bottle Auction catelog. The auction ended last week and this one sold for $50.....Ron

W & R. With sheared lip and smooth base. 8 ¾â€. This capers jar turned up locally and although we are not sure whether it is a western made bottle, it’s very unusual to see writing on a capers. We’ve looked for some evidence of who W & R might be to no avail. There is a very small flake off the lip and a tiny pressure ding near the bottom. Despite the distractions, this still displays beautifully. An 8.5 grade without the two flaws. .
