has anyone ever seen something like this?
The bottle was broken and laying on the surface when i found it.
I am just curious to the age and why the bottom looks like this.
thanks to anyone who can help!

Glass residue from another bottle was in the bottom of the mold and adhered to this bottle. Early machine made piece. Still working the kinks out of the new technology at the time. Unusual to see machine made bottles with that striking a defect though.

I've never seen a base or bottle that poorly manufactured. It seems to me that the base material was not heated properly and was too cold to mold correctly. Also, I agree with Sandchip, it could be too much residue in the mold. However, it does make a terrific example of manufacturing flaws that can occur if things aren't done correctly... it's a keeper.
