Hello HunterThe Fox,
"Whip City?" --New to me. Was there really a whip factory in Westfield or Montgomery? (If you drank it a little too fast did it---? Apology given, no Devo chuckle tonight. ) Nice bot though.
Btw, one of my two Springfield Country Club green quarts surfaced. Sorry, no paper label, just the embossment name collar. At least one more left in deep storage. Here's hoping...
Thanks, Len! Westfield was a manufacturer of whips from the early 1800s into the 1920s, and there were a few dozen different factories located in town. As for Montgomery, it was a small farming community with a population of a few hundred, so it never had much industry. There was a secret armory built there in 1768, and it was used during the Revolutionary War. The ruins were rediscovered not too long ago.
I did a bit of research on him not too long ago, and I believe he was the director or co-director for the Springfield Armory for some time after the war. He also led a company of soldiers, including his 14-year-old son, to the battle of Bunker Hill. About a year or two ago I took a hike up to the ruins of the Falley homestead. The photos of the ruins aren't mine though.
Hunter!
You continue to impress! --Not only good but quick! (Are you an educator?) ..Falley may be the Revolutionary local tip of his time period's iceberg. No doubt he was probably present at Shay's Rebellion too. WOW! You certainly have a lot of great possibilities in your backyard. Thanks for sharing. I enjoy greater Springfield history and miss the area.
Found a couple arrowheads at a family property 20+years ago...
You are not the first to ask; but seeing how the red man RARELY used silver (up here at least) and nearly never used iron tools (unless traded with Europeans), I have found nothing related to such...
The areas in which one would find native artifacts, more often than not, are quite off-limits..(at least to us pale face trypes)..
On the plus side of things, 99% of their stuff is of no interest to me.
If the tribes in the PNW were doing work with gold/silver, might be a different story lol.
