Recently I caught a glimpse of a "Painter" 1894 opener on Ebay in a group of openers that the price had been reduced. I pounced. I'd wanted one for a long time but the only other one I've ever seen belongs to SODAPOPBOB.
Bob discussed his opener in the "First crown top bottle" thread and said his had some black paint that prevented him seeing the patent number - mine has no patent numbers but I'm interested to know how long they may have made these. It's a bit heavier than I imagined.Do any of you fellas have a Painter bottle opener?[attachment=Painter opener.JPG]

Similar styles weren't long after adopted for the re-corking openers like that. They had a rubber seal wrapped around that middle bulge. I had a Moxie and a few others.
