We might go back tomorrow for another search. I have not tried to clean the cans yet, I am waiting for help from The Rusty Bunch. If you want to check out my can collection, my username is The Can Kid. (I am April's son, just don't have my own email.)
I really need to join a can forum, I have so many can questions I don't want to ask here. They can wait.
This one is more urgent: How do you clean a can, that can be broken with the touch of a finger?
I can't get Oxalic acid, and citric (lemon juice) would eat it. Is there some commercial rust...
I didn't think there would be any more bottle finds this weekend, but I was wrong!
On a small beach (if it can be called that) near a boating club, I spotted bits of sea glass. But I looked closer, and some of them were embossed! This started a search of the entire beach. Whole bottles were...
1960s Pepsi Bottlecaps with some bad opener damage:
As a side note to this picture, I almost bought a Coke bottle at a garage sale. The owner said it had cork under the cap, I told him it didn't. So he pulled out an opener and destroyed the cap... No cork. I only wanted it for the cap...
I saw some tiny repro bottles at the local thrift store. But they weren't the "Made In Taiwan" ones I always find. They were marked with a company name on the base. Started with WE. Wesley? Western?
Does anyone know of reproduction bottles that have names with "WE___?" They looked older, like...
Very badly coloured can of Shasta Orange Soda.
There was another commercial for the new Shasta Cherry Cola, where they had a truck full of cherries and a truck full of cola. They tried to get them to crash, but they always just missed... except the last time. No good shots of bottles in...
Fresh-Up Freddie advertises 7-Up in the 1940s. Freddie is a rip-off of Woody Woodpecker, and it shows. At the end of the commercial he floats a house away with balloons. He also keeps his closet full of 7-Up, he must drink it constantly.
7-Up - the Uncola!
This is from the commercial where they did a taste test of 3 soft drinks. 2 colas, (obviously Coke and Pepsi, although they are not named in the ad) and the Uncola.
