    Another top shelf Bitters CATAWA WINE BITTERS (C-85)

    i dug that catawba and would have loved to keep it but made a deal with my friend who got access to the site that we would split the finds. it did'nt look very promising, go figure. can someone tell me why the catawba wine bitters that sold at ABA in 08 only brought $2800?

    digging frozen ground ideas?

    i should know better than to torture my self by checking in active construction sites while the ground is frozen. once again ive found my self staring at a cracked open privy frozen solid. sometimes if you can get the top few inches up you can get to digable ground below the frozen crust but...

    NEW IDEA FOR FINDING INSTEAD OF PROBES

    sorry, but your not going to find any privys with a metal detector. i can give you as many reasons as you have time to listen to but the most obvious is that the bottles you are going to find in a privy worth digging didnt have metal caps and if they did they would be 15 - 20 feet below grade...

    1830's puce bottle. identify?

    we dug this a few days ago in an nyc pit with mostly late 1840's - early 50's stuff. anyone ever seen one or have a guess as to what it might have been used for? sticky ball pontil, about 5 in. tall.
