    Cleaning zinc jar lid

What is the best method for cleaning zinc mason jar lids? I can just barely see the punch stamped label "Ball" on top and could make it worse by improper cleaning methods.

Found a Ball zinc lid with inserted milkglass cap underneath with raised lettering "GENUINE ZINC CAPS FOR MASON JARS". About when was the end of the zinc lid era? I got a feeling not too long ago. ? for same lid in CLEANING FORUM

    Ginger Beer Project

1st off, my appologies for picture quality. My DC is about as old as some of my bottles. This is the only earthware bottle I've found and as you can see it needs a little elbow grease. The before and after was from several hours of scrubbing the label area until legible using a child's...

    2-LITER AQUA

I once owned a third "big aqua" for about 1 min. before I sold it, with decomposits still dripping from the mouth (of the bottle). They are kinda common in the landfill mostly broken. One does say "2 LITER" near the base and what almost looks like... I wanna say TURKISH script above shoulder...

    Round bottom

What were these round bottom bottles used for? They're harder than hell to display.

    Trying to break 1900 barrier

My dig site is about 80 years or so old. These two storage jars maybe my oldest I've found. They have lots of bubbles in glass. The non-machine made seams are wide and uneven. No lettering, numbers, symbols, or id. The one on right has a small crack[X(] The one on the left I thought it might be...

    exclusive license plate

This 1933 vendor or peddler vehicle license plate was dug up fom a landfill in south Seattle Washington with 3 others (in # sequence). After long research in city archives no records for these plates. Probably never circulated. Vendor plates had specific use written such as the 1931 junk wagon...

    Motor Oil Bottles

Most old oil bottles I've seen seem to be taller and slimmer with an attached funnel. This mid/late 20's bottle from US West Coast with embossed wording: "32 oz (arrow to fill line)" "The best for less" "Cast Oil" "paraffin base plus de-cummed castor" "Motor Oil" "Coast Oil CO. INC." (on...

Actual photo of my dig 80 yrs ago!

This landfill is located across the street from the old Rainier Brewery South Seattle. Note the Sears Sodo Bldg. upper left corner. During The Great Depression this area was known as Hooverville (named after Pres. Hoover)where the homeless lived in crate shacks and scanvenged a living out of...

1921 NUXATED IRON bottle - common or rare?

This little 3" colorless (almost frosted) cyl. bottle was produced and sold in 1921 in major US cities by E. Birgil Neal. But just how many? Very few search hits on the web. Does anybody else have one? Picture available upon reply.

    Seattle Exposure

Old landfill in S. Seattle is revealed by new construction. Many bottles (very good to fair condition) are from 1890's to 1920's. I'm new at this so could use anybody's advice. I'll try to get photos. Back soon.
