soda I've never heard of. among other things

Hi peoples, Dave hit a flea market yesterday and came home with a slew of Maryland bottles, among them a gorgeous bar bottle (I'll get some pictures later this week). But one that's got me curious is an old soda bottle that reads "Nocafeen"; under that it says no caffiene (all enbossed.) It...

    heartbreak on the trail

Hi peoples, Found this broken Lash's Bitter's almost all the pieces, on the trail by that old quarry. It's a huge expanse of land and we've looked everywhere for where they may have camped out, etc. No luck yet.

    my little heartbreaker

Well, I've been gathering all these tips you've posted about finding dump sites, and yesterday Dave and I were tooling around a very old quarry/camp looking for frogs and such. I found a few potential dump sites, then Dave holds something big and amber to the sun and says, "what's _ash's...

    Bromoseltzer cobalt, Baltimore

Hi peoples, My friend has been finding a lot of these in her yard (the little ones) and gave me one. She has an 1800's farmhouse. My bottle book says they are valued at between $2 and $10, but can anyone give me an approximate year of make? It is a cork top. Thanks,

    How do bottles turn purple?

Hi peoples, [:)] I've been wondering ... how do older bottles turn purple? I read somewhere that it has to do with manganese in the bottle or being exposed to sunlight - is that true? Got some junk bottles that would look much better purple, LOL!

this pic was posted a few days ago, curious about a sideline object

Hi again, This pic was posted a few days ago, my apologies for not recalling the photographer's name. What I'm curious about is those two green glasses to either side of the Warners - what are they, and how old are they (Dave has a *very* similar one, and we never did figure out what it is)...

Neat vases - can anyone help me date them?

Hi peoples, Picked up these, a vase and a pitcher at an antiques place. To my untrained eye, it looks like they have pontil scars on them - the edges are very jagged, and on the pitcher it's about a quarter inch deep. Can anyone help me date them, assuming it's a real pontil scar...

    has anyone noticed ...?

Hi peoples, Has anyone noticed a lot of Robert Turlington's Balsom of Life bottles on Ebay all of the sudden? Last month it an influx of Dr. Ely's, then Dr. Thompson's eye water? Where do these things come from all of the sudden?

    When was it?

Hi peoples, Does anybody recall when they stopped using glass for Windex brand bottles? Just came across two of them, and I'd like to be able to put an approximate year to them. Thanks,

    what the heck is it?

Hi peoples, Got this strange gizmo in a lot I bought. At the 'waistline' it says "fill to this line". But as you can see in the second picture, the top has a screw thread, like what you'd screw a bulb into on a lamp. I say it's part of an old gas lamp; Dave says it's for making perfume (I...

    muriatic acid

Hi peoples, OK, I located a local source for muriatic acid. A former post had mentioned the proper dilution, but how long do you usually let a hazy bottle soak in this? Also, since I'll have to use it outside, will the cold weather effect it? Thanks, Barbie

    Did I find something cool?

Hi Peoples, [8D] Need some help verifying if I really did or not. Dave brought home a bottle a while ago that I never really looked at. Yesterday, when I finally did, I realized it's a Dr. J. Hostetter's stomach bitters. According to the field guide, this bottle, *with certain criteria*, is...

    Need a good book ...

Hi peoples, [:)] I'm a newbie in need of a good book. I have the field guide to bottles, but all it does is highlight the big money bottles. I need something that will *explain* to me what I'm looking at (ie, I get confused between pontil marks and Owen's!)[:o] Can anyone recommend one...
