I have just seen a Amethyst masons jar(sun colored ) and on the metal lid it had Boyd"s patent and several patent dates and was wondering if these lids are common as this is the first patent lid I have seen on a Mason"s jar.

Zinc lids with patent dates are not very common. I pick them up whenever I get a chance. They look nicer than a plain lid on my fruit jars.
