federal law warnings on bottles

i found a couple of these in the dump that im digging in. i know they are worthless but i liked the design on tthem so kept them.i just noticed there is no "federal law prohibits.." lable on them?..it says wine on the bottom..what were the years of the federal law warnings on the bottles?...im pretty sure this one is not before or after and i was wondering if its possible for the to have put the warning on a paper labe. was it the law that the bottle must be embossed?

I'm pretty sure the warning had to be embossed on the bottle... 1933 - 1964..I am not sure if bottles for wine needed the warning, perhaps only liquor..?

hey dan,, yer dump seems to be from the turn of the century to the 40s, thats what ill date your wine at, i save those too i wonder what will happen if you dig really deep in that dump? or is it all mixed together

hey mike, it seems to be mixed at times but some spots seem to produce older bottles athan others. theres a spot on the hill i know i can go to and find bottles quicker and they seem to be 30s and 40s. then other spots seem to give me 1910ish sodas and early bottles. i remember one day thinking to myself " i wonder if an old dump like this could have been organized?"...i highly doubt it, but im looking foward to trying to dig deeper in spots where i found good things already...

hey cc6pack, thats very interesting. thats something i did not know, i thought any alchohol had to have the warning.thanks fort the info..

Yes, glad that's cleared up.. it explains why the word "wine" was embossed on the bases of bottles like this, which date from the same era.. I guess there wasn't enough tax revenue from beer or wine to make a fuss about..

I believe that it was to prevent untaxed whiskey from being sold. I remember all those tax seals across the tops of whiskey bottles. If they caught you with a bottle in your vechicle with the seal broken the cops would confiscate it. I guess that's why bootleggers always used mason jars.

hey dan id dig deep in the 1910ish spot, it may produce, some times dumps were bulldozed around, where you find mixed eras who knows???
