I have been researching about the Virginia Brewing Co. Roanoke,Va. The question i have is they were founded in 1889 and sold various products and even sodas,do you know what brand or brands they sold? If you have any information on this and the possible time lines i would appreciate it.

The only site I can find saying they did soda is a can collector site. I didn't see anything else to state that.
Many companies that made alcohol converted to soda or made cereal beverage during prohibition but even that site said they closed and sold the machinery for scrap for the war. That in itself isn't very patriotic and I can't vouch for it's validity but sounds incorrect. High prices for scrap seams odd to me during wartime.
I guess you'd have to get the "Sources Used" books and check their info also. It may be just another case of "you can't believe everything you read". Maybe the other ventures were from after prohibition.

I saw this in a Google book
List of Proprietary Containers.
Filed and registered in the office of the Secretary of the Commomwealth for the year ending September 30. 1908.

RE: Virginia Brewing Roanoke

I found this article on the two brewing companies in Roanoke, VA. One, Robert Portner, was a branch plant from Alexandria, VA, while Virginia Brewing Company was brewed and bottled in Roanoke, VA. The article states that the Robert Portner branch bottled soda after the introduction of Prohibition in Virginia in 1916; however, doesn't specifically state that Virginia Brewing did; however, it does mention that the Brewery did attempt to make a comeback, but failed due to the owner's death and the resulting sale by his heirs.

I've never heard of Virginia Brewing bottling sodas; however, there are those 6oz bottles, so who knows?

Portner Brewing Co. was bottling Celery=Cola and Ginger Ale at Alexandria, Richmond, and Danville by 1902.
