Here are two more I picked up. An aqua and a "citron"? The photo makes it look greener but looking at it in my hands, it looks like a citron color. Someone else thought it was citron too. The embossing on both are: JOHNSON'S / AMERICAN / ANODYNE / LINIMENT They are 4 3/8" tall. The lips are similar except the aqua one has a collar below the ring. They both have a smooth bottom. They are common in aqua. Unlisted in colors.

Looks like an olive green tint on my monitor. Citron seems to be kind of a subjective color. Definately less common in that shade.

I think variations of common bottles are cool. Have you ever seen one from Wiscasset ME?? I've looked it up, and Johnson is associated with Boston early and Bangor ME around 1890, but I assume it is the same company. It is the same size as others, and the embossing is the same except for the town name.

Here's the other side.
Yours looks older than mine. Is that an applied top on yours. These come with an open pontil too but both of mine are smooth based. As for the town, mine don't have one. Mine says American where yours has the town name. I agree, they are probably the same company though.

Nice pair! I found a Dr. Baxter's Mandrake Bitters on ebay in the same color, along with an Ayer's Sarsaparilla. The only problem is that sometimes it's hard to tell if the bottle really is apple greenish in the ebay pictures.
