I believe we all realize that all U.S. Patents are issued on Tuesdays and that Patents are good for 17 (?) years. Please correct me if I am mistaken. If that is correct, why did Coca-Cola patent the "Hobble Skirt" bottle in 1915 and again in 1923, only 8 years later?

Anybody on this forum want a VERY nice CHRISTmas Coke from Sacramento, Calif. for your price? Cheap?

Anybody interested in miniature, vintage, Coke Bottle lighters?

Some time ago I exchanged several emails with Bill Porter on the very subject of why there were so many different patents, and although it will be difficult for me to explain every detail of our conversation here, I do recall Bill telling me there are barely noticable differences (improvements) between the various hobbleskirts, and that each one required a new patent. I have studied some of the differences and will post some pictures of them as soon as I get the time. Bill also said there were times when Coca Cola would see a need to re-write a patent so as to insure it was registered under the companies name and not an individual's name as in the case with the 1915 prototype bottles that were registered under the name of Alexander Samuelson, who was the plant superintendent of the Root Glass Company.

Here's a link I think you will enjoy and one that will hopefully shed a little light on the subject ...

I haven't been able to read all of that article but it does answer my question very thoroughly. Thank you.
