amber detroit SS Coke

I'm reading through a late 70's OBX last night and come across an article on Cokes. It said there were "rumors" of an amber SS from Detroit. I have dug a SS Detroit Coke that turned amethyst. Has anyone been able to substantiate the rumor?
The closest amber I am aware of, to Detroit, is Toledo.
